Self-Discrepancy Theory
Self-Discrepancy Theory tries to explain in a sentence what life explains in a decade. It is a fair compression.
Like all theories, it explains most cases and none perfectly. Use it as a lantern, not as a cage. A lantern shows the path; a cage only shows itself.
What this concept offers is a pause — one extra beat between what happens and what you do about it. Civilisation, someone said, is measured in that beat.
Consider the railway porter who has carried ten thousand suitcases. He knows what nobody packs: a plan for what happens after arrival.
In the end, life asks only whether we were awake while it happened. You will meet this idea again this week, wearing different clothes. Now you will recognise it.
